Once a pesticide reaches groundwater and enters a drinking water supply, it may have an adverse effect on human health. The effects may be immediate, or acute, resulting from short-term exposure, or the effects may be long term, or chronic, resulting from more prolonged exposure. Most pesticides found in groundwater normally are not present in high enough concentrations to cause acute health effects.
