  Pesticide Applied Learning Series (PALS)
Pieces of the Puzzle; Does Atrazine Affect the Risk of Cancer?

by Suzanne M. Snedeker, Ph.D.
Cornell Sprecher Institute for Comparative Cancer Research

Overview:
The PALS modules (Pesticide Applied Learning Series) make current scientific topics on agriculture, the environment and health available to pesticide safety educators and extension agents. Educators can adapt modules for their own use and for presentations to pesticide applicators. This module explores the current scientific evidence of whether exposure to the herbicide atrazine affects the risk of cancer.

Requirements:

  • Interactive Version: The interactive version is designed for individualized self-study at a computer work station. An audio of the script will play. The user can advance to the next slide when the "next" button appears below the slide.

Browser version for PC users: Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, Netscape 4.0 or higher.

Browser version for Mac users: Internet Explorer 5.1 or higher, Netscape 7.0 or higher.

Macromedia plug-in must be installed on your computer to view the interactive module and animation features. Free software can be downloaded at: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download.

  • PowerPoint Version: The Power Point slides should be viewed with the script. The script for each slide can be viewed with the "View:Notes Page" option of Power Point. To view the script or to edit the slides you must have Power Point software (version 6.0 or higher) installed on your computer.

If you do not have Power Point installed on your computer, and you would like to preview the slides you can download a "Power Point Viewer" (http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/fqpa/pals/Power_Point/index.htm). The "viewer" does NOT allow you to view the script.

  • PDF Guidebook: The portable document file (PDF) of the Guidebook can be downloaded with Acrobat Reader at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html. We advise that you print out the first 12 pages, which includes background information, learning objectives and instructions on using the different versions of the module. (File size - 10.2MB)
