Welcome!

The Pesticide Safety Education Program or PSEP is a federally mandated program. Our primary mission is to provide objective information about pests and pesticides, promote sound decision making and safe handling practices to people who choose to use pesticides.

PSEP Primary responsibilities

Develop and distribute pesticide training materials

  • Manuals for applicators seeking certification
  • Training modules for 30-hour course sponsors
  • On-line courses for recertification credits

Outreach to occupational users of pesticides

  • Host conferences
  • Conduct workshops
  • Give presentations for recertification credits
  • Provide on-line certification/recertification course calendar
  • PMEP listserv

Produce the Cornell Crop and Pest Management Guidelines series (formerly the Cornell Recommends)

  • Work with Cornell faculty and staff to update Guideline content
  • Publish and distribute the Guidelines to county Extension offices and the public

Public outreach

  • Provide objective information about pesticides and pest management
  • Answer phone/e-mail questions regarding pests and pesticides
  • Provide pesticide-related fact sheets
  • Help staff DEC pesticide booth at NY State Fair
  • Serve as a resource upon request
